A horrific murder unfolded earlier this month in Virginia that has sent shock waves across the country music community.
As WTVR reported on Friday, 62-year-old teacher Holly Hatcher was savagely killed back on August 3 in Rockingham County after a stranger broke into her and her husband’s home. 65-year-old Michael Hatcher, the husband, was wounded during the attack but managed to kill the perp in an act of self-defense.
Police identified the deceased killer as 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker of Pikeville, Maryland. Police said that on August 1, Walker rented a campsite at Endless Caverns in New Market, Virginia, at 2:22 p.m. and toured the caverns at approximately 3 p.m.
Walker then purchased a large knife three hours later (5:24 p.m.) at a Walmart roughly seven minutes from the campsite.

The following morning, Virginia State Police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Endless Caverns Road. There, they discovered the store at Endless Caverns had been broken into, with damage consistent with being rammed by a vehicle.
Authorities determined Walker had entered both the store and the caverns, though nothing was stolen.
Despite efforts to locate Walker using patrol vehicles and a drone, he wasn’t found. Felony warrants were obtained for him at that time.
The next call authorities received was at 11:58 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, when Michael Hatcher reported the home invasion.
When police deputies arrived on the scene, they found Walker dead in the driveway and Michael Hatcher injured. Holly Hatcher was discovered inside the home with multiple stab wounds.
During a press conference, Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson stated that such a crime almost never happens in the area. He also called the attack “random.”
“This is a highly unusual, apparently completely random [attack] with an individual with no known history of violent behavior of any kind, or even criminal behavior of any kind,” Hutcheson said.
Michael and Holly Hatcher are the parents of country star Spencer Hatcher, who has more than 720,000 followers on TikTok. As The Daily Mail notes, he released his first EP album last October.
The 27-year-old Hatcher cancelled several upcoming concerts following the brutal crime.
“It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that — due to a monumental loss in our family — I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, OH (8/8) and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA (8/11 & 8/12),” he wrote on Instagram.
“I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
An investigation into the motive for the attack remains ongoing.
