Journalists should know by now that questioning President Trump about presidential election history is never wise. CNBC learned the hard way and was left humiliated afterward.

On Tuesday, Trump did a phone interview with CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box” to discuss a variety of political issues, including redistricting, the jobs numbers, and who could replace Jerome “Too Late” Powell as Federal Reserve Chairman. But amid the seriousness, the hosts of CNBC created some unintentional comic relief when they questioned Trump’s claim that he won the most votes in Texas history.

In the 2024 Presidential election, Trump crushed Kamala Harris in the Lone Star State by almost 14 percentage points while flipping several heavily Hispanic counties along the border. In the process, he shattered the record for most total votes in Texas history with 6,393,597, surpassing his old record by half a million.

“Squawk Box” co-host Joe Kernan later came back and had to admit the obvious truth: Trump was right.

But when Kernan tried to justify the hosts’ previous skepticism, the President promptly shut him down.

Kernan then quickly moved on to another topic.

WATCH:

LMAO! President Trump “claimed” he got the most amount of votes in Texas history…

…the CNBC host said “we need to fact check you on that.”

Then he came back: “So, you DID get the highest number of votes in Texas. So, that’s true. Moving on.”

KERNAN: So, here we go. You did get the highest number of votes in Texas, so that’s true. But when you’re talking about…

TRUMP: You don’t have to say anything more, Joe!

KERNAN (scoffing): I gotta say this…

TRUMP: No, don’t say anything more. You don’t have to qualify it by saying…I got the highest number of votes in the history of Texas!

KERNAN: You did! I’m moving on! I’m moving on!
