War Room’s Steve Bannon discussed with Texas Sheriff Roy Boyd the importance of cooperation with Federal authorities regarding deportation of illegal aliens.
“Texas is the railhead of MAGA,” Bannon said.
“There is this huge fight I guess in the Texas House and Senate about a bill, 287g,” Bannon said.
“Why this is even a controversy down in Texas given the great patriot folks down there that support President Trump and support the MAGA agenda?” Bannon asked.
“While Texas may be full of conservatives, and we are predominately a rural state, we are becoming urbanized very fast, and if we are not careful, we are gonna be the new California in another 15 to 20 years at the rate we are going,” Boyd warned.
“Our legislature is not nearly as conservative as most of the people of the State of Texas would like to believe they are,” Boyd continued.
The sheriff also explained that some people are running as Republicans when they are not really conservatives.
“You have many people now in the State of Texas at the local, you know, whether it’s that county or State level that run as Republicans that are really not Republicans,” Boyd continued.
“They’ve mimicked those things but when it comes time to pass legislation, they always get a little bit soft on what they need to do,” Boyd explained.
Sheriff Boyd also explained that although the legislatures are to blame, that law enforcement also shares responsibility for issues regarding enforcing immigration laws.
“It’s not just the legislature’s fault, it’s also law enforcement’s fault because a lot of the sheriffs don’t want to be told what to do,” Boyd said.
“Now in the bill, unless you are a county of a 100,000 or more people, you are not mandated to participate in the 287g program,” Boyd continued.
Bannon also discussed with Sheriff Boyd about law enforcement working with Federal authorities and asked why they couldn’t just be involved without legislation.
“Why would we actually have to pass a bill? Why don’t you guys just work in hand in glove anyway?” Bannon asked.
“Your guess is as good as mine. The problem is you’ve got a vast array in law enforcement. It doesn’t matter where you are, but you have some folks that get elected to Sheriff and for them it’s their chance there at the apex of their career and they are gonna put their feet on their desk. For some of them they’re like the dog that caught the car by the bumper and it’s dragging them down the road cause it’s actually too much for them to manage and to comprehend,” Boyd said.
“The Border Sheriff’s Coalition wants nothing to do with enforcement. They want all the stone garden money in the world, and they don’t want anything to do with disrupting cartel activity down along the border, and we’ve seen it firsthand,” Boyd continued.
