Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Wednesday was asked about the Democrats’ cover-up of Biden’s mental acuity on the campaign trail, and she dodged the question with a word-salad answer about the risks of changing the nominee so close to election day.
Asked by CNN’s Manu Raju whether the Democrats will be straightforward about his condition, AOC went on a tirade about the unprecedented nature of installing a new nominee, but still did not condemn the move or her party.
“Harris ran an excellent campaign, but it was 90-or-so days,” she said. “I think it’s very challenging for the American people to assess a new nominee 90 days out from the election.”
She was then asked if the Democrats would face blowback for the 2024 election coup, and her answer really didn’t make sense.

Raju: Last year, you were defending Joe Biden, saying he should not drop out of the race, and then all these reports now about his mental accuity at the time. Will Democrats be straightforward about his condition at the time, last lear?
AOC: Well, listen, I think for me and for many of us at this time, there was this sudden discussion about, after a full primary process, about changing the nominee like 90 days before a presidential election. And so, in my assessment, a move that was that unprecedented, having a brand new nominee 90 days before a presidential election, against a nominee that had been running for four years straight, was a major risk.
And so, like I think, regardless of what the situation was, it was such an unprecedented move that, you know, I think everyone, in so much uncertainty, everyone had their own opinions on the matter. And we saw, you know, what happened, Vice President Harris ran an excellent campaign, but it was 90-or-so days, and I think it was very, very hard for– I think it’s very challenging for the American people to assess a new nominee 90 days out from the election.
Raju: Do you think there will be blowback for the Democrats for the way that they handled Joe Biden?
AOC: I mean, I think at the end of the day, it’s up to every nominee and every candidate to make those decisions for themselves. He became the Democratic nominee through the electorate and through voters.

One former Harris aide blamed Biden for the loss, saying, “he totally f*cked it up for us” by not dropping out earlier, a similar message to that conveyed by AOC.
