With four days until the Papal Conclave convenes in Vatican City, these are the odds for the next elected Pope, per BetUs.

  • Pietro Parolin: +330
  • Luis Antonio Tagle: +440
  • Peter Turkson: +600
  • Matteo Zuppi: +760
  • Pierbattista Pizzaballa: +1250
  • Peter Erdo: +1700
  • Giovanni Battista: +1800
  • Robert Sarah: +2300
  • Claudio Gugerotti: +2800
  • Jean-Marc Aveline: +2800

On Wednesday, May 7, the Conclave of 133 Cardinals will begin deliberations for the papal successor to Pope Francis.

The betting favorite to become the next Pope is current Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, who will himself preside over the Conclave. Appointed by Pope Francis, Parolin led negotiations between the Vatican and the Chinese Communist Party, as well as other secular nations, and Middle Eastern nations.

The leftwing media’s darling, Filipino Cardinal Luis Tagle, made headlines by defending various left-wing social causes against the dogmas of the Catholic Church, recently saying, “If I were God, I wouldn’t choose me [for Pope].”

Hailing from Ghana, Cardinal Peter Turkson’s odds of becoming the first Black pope are favorable. Turkson is currently the most likely conservative candidate to be elected Pope.

On the contrary, Italian prelate Matteo Zuppi’s politics are virtually identical to the late Pope Francis. Zuppi has promoted mass migration and backed Pope Francis on a litany of left-wing social issues.

Another Italian frontrunner is Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Pierrbattista Pizzaballa, who is viewed as a centrist, with some traditional leanings.

Hungarian Cardinal Peter Erdo is a potential Pope for conservatives to keep in their prayers. Contrary to the left-leaning clergy, Erdo emphasizes upholding the traditional doctrines of the Catholic Church.

The Dean of the College of Cardinals, Giovanni Battista, presided over Pope Francis’s funeral, yet he cannot vote in the Conclave, at the age of 91. Still, Battista is viewed as a possible emergency selection for Pope, should the Cardinals not be able to elect a Pope from amongst themselves.

Cardinal Robert Sarah, from Guinea, is another conservative favorite for Pope, known for his outspoken defense of conservative issues. Sarah called abortion “the greatest tragedy of our time,” while also warning Catholics about the “Islamic threat” to the Church.

The Prefect for Eastern Churches, Claudio Gugerotti, is not a well-known name in the Vatican media, though he has held Papal appointments in Ukraine and Great Britain. Gugerotti could be under consideration for Pope if the Conclave seeks to emphasize its European ties.

Finally, French Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline is the Vatican’s leading longshot for Pope, known for his “promoting dialogues” with other faiths, and his physical resemblance to Pope John Paul II.

On the conservative front, Cardinals Peter Turkson, Peter Erdo, and Robert Sarah, are among the only frontrunners for Pope who would seemingly fight to uphold traditional Catholic doctrines.
