Jussie Smollett reached a settlement with the city of Chicago on Monday 6 years after he orchestrated a hate hoax crime.
The city of Chicago previously filed a lawsuit against Smollett after it was revealed he submitted a false police report and was behind the hate hoax crime against himself.
Smollett countersued and insisted he did not orchestrate the hate hoax.
The details of the settlement were not disclosed.

The City of Chicago and former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett have reached a settlement, six years after the city sued the TV star.
The city filed a civil suit against the actor in April 2019, three months after Smollett claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood.
However, police and city officials later said he orchestrated the hoax hate crime against himself. The city’s suit accused Smollett of submitting a false police report on Jan. 29, 2019, said he knew his attackers, planned the attack, and sought $130,000 in expenses spent on the police investigation.
Smollett had filed a countersuit denying that he orchestrated the attack and denied making a false police report.
On Monday, the city and Smollett advised the court that they have settled, “but need more time to finalize documentation.”
In November 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court reversed Jussie Smollett’s conviction.
Jussie Smollett asked the Illinois Supreme Court to overturn his conviction after the appellate court denied his request.

Smollett laughably claimed two ‘white men’ ambushed him at 2 am in 20-degree weather in downtown Chicago while screaming “This is MAGA country!”
The ‘Empire’ actor said the attackers poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck while verbally abusing him with homophobic and racial slurs.
It turns out Jussie Smollett paid two Nigerian brothers over $3,000 to help him pull off the “MAGA Country” hate hoax crime.
In previously released footage, the Osundairo brothers are seen purchasing all of the supplies for the hate hoax such as red hats, rope and bleach.
Despite all of the evidence presented in the court proving Smollett recruited the Nigerians to help him with this hate hoax, the ‘Empire’ actor lied to the court for hours and claimed he was a victim of a real crime.
