An American Airlines plane en route to Charleston, South Carolina clipped another plane en route to New York carrying several members of Congress parked on the tarmac waiting for takeoff at Reagan Washington International Airport at 12:45 pm on Thursday.
No injuries were reported.
The reason for the collision in unknown and under investigation.
Members of Congress who were on the plane posted about the incident on social media.
“Serving in Congress has come with some once in a lifetime experiences… like just now while stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully everyone is ok!” Congressman Nick LaLota said.

“Fortunately everyone is okay and we’re heading back to New York soon!” Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-NY) said.

Several members of Congress were on a plane that was sitting on the tarmac waiting to leave Washington on Thursday when it was clipped by another aircraft.
American Airlines said no injuries were reported, and both aircraft returned to the gates at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The wingtip of a plane bound for Charleston International Airport in South Carolina struck another plane that was headed to JFK International Airport in New York, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating the incident.
In February, an American Airlines flight en route from Boston to DC had to abort a landing at Reagan International Airport.
According to reports, the pilot decided to “perform a go-around maneuver” after he saw another plane on the runway at DCA.
In early February, an American Airlines flight carrying approximately 64 souls collided with a Blackhawk helicopter near Washington D.C. Reagan National Airport (DCA).
All 67 people perished.
A preliminary FAA report indicated that staffing at the DCA Air Traffic Control tower was “not normal” at the time of the helicopter-plane collision.
According to NBC News, at the time of the collision, one controller was overseeing both helicopter and airplane traffic.
