The momentum for peace negotiations is much faster than even the most hopeful among us was expecting, and it seems like every day another historical milestone is achieved.
Today, it arises that the Saudi Foreign Ministry publicly welcomed the telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and announced that it is ready to host a meeting between Trump and Putin on its territory.
Trump expects to meet Putin in Saudi Arabia ‘in the not-too-distant future’, but later clarified he will not be meeting Putin next week in Saudi Arabia, despite online speculation.
No specific date for the summit has yet been confirmed, and the Kremlin says final decisions have not been made.
Ukrainska Pravda reported:
“Quote: ‘The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commends the phone call that took place between President Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America and President Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation on 12 February 2025, and the announcement regarding the possibility of holding a summit attended by their excellencies the two Presidents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’.
Details: The ministry noted that the Kingdom welcomes the summit in Saudi Arabia and ‘reaffirms its ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine’.”

All the old Cold War ‘neutral’ places of negotiation, like Switzerland or Austria’s Vienna are now not suitable anymore, since Brussels has dragged the whole continent to a confrontational stance against Russia.
It’s been reported that both Russia and Trump’s team considered Saudi Arabia or the UAE as adequate locations for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

But there’s a party to the negotiations that is feeling left behind.
“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would visit the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and
Turkey in the coming days. However, he says he is not going to have any meetings with representatives of the Russian Federation or the United States.”
